Earthquakes vs. Sounders, MLS Schedule Preview: Quakes Host Sounders at Buck Shaw Stadium

The San Jose Earthquakes picked up their first win of their young 2011 campaign last week against FC Dallas, and will be looking to make it two in a row this evening as they host the Seattle Sounders at Buck Shaw Stadium. Although the Sounders are yet to win a match, the Earthquakes will need to bring their A game tonight if they want to earn some points in the standings.

Currently sitting with 3 points, the Quakes are tied for third in the Western Conference and will look to the 2010 Budweiser MLS Golden Boot Award winner Chris Wondolowski to lead the charge against Seattle this evening. Wondolowski led all of the MLS last season with 18 goals, and his two he scored last week against FC Dallas already have him on track to continue his dominance in 2011. He has scored the last 12 regular season goals for the Quakes dating back to last year.

As for the Sounders they have gotten out of the gate rather slowly as they are still in search of their first win of the season. Last week’s draw against the Houston Dynamo 1-1 was their first goal of the season, and will more than likely be without their star forward Fredy Montero who is still recovering from a recent wrist surgery.

In other Injury news, the Quakes will be without midfielders Andre Luiz due to a knee injury, and Omar Jasseh with a right hamstring strain. As for the Sounders defensemen James Riley will likely return after suffering a mild concussion last week, and forward Mike Fucito is probable after his strained his right abductor muscle last week as well.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and can be seen on CSN California Plus as well as the Direct Kick channel for paid subscirbers. Stay with SB Nation Bay Area for complete coverage of the Earthquakes as it happens.
