The 2011 Masters, Sunday Leaderboard: Charl Schwartzel is the 2011 Masters Champion

As the fourth and final round at the 2011 Masters concludes, we’ve seen one of the most exciting Sundays that there has been in a while, and after a number of terrific shots including chip ins on the first and third holes South Africa’s Charl Schwartzel is the 2011 Masters Champion.

Schwartzel’s -14 par 274 was just enough to fend off Adam Scott and Jason Day
at -12 par 276, and Luke Donald, Geoff Ogilvy, and Tiger Woods at -10 par 278. Tiger had his opportunities down the stretch, but couldn’t complete his eagle putt at 15, or birdies at 16,17, and 18, finishing the day with a -5 67.

The leader at the beginning of the day was 21 year old Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy, who absolutely blew up on the back nine with a number of bogeys and a triple bogey 7 on the par four 10th, and dropped back all the way to -4 for the tournament.

Schwartzel makes the third South African to ever win the Masters, including Trevor Immelman in 2008 and the legend Gary Player in 1961, 1974, and 1978. Charl is only the second winner to not come out of the final pairing in the last 20 plus years at Augusta, with the last being Zach Johnson in 2007.
