2011 CIT Basketball Tournament Results: Santa Clara Rolls Air Force

The Santa Clara Broncos kept their postseason alive for another day as they dominated the Air Force Falcons in an 88-75 victory. I had predicted Santa Clara to win, Air Force to cover, and the game to go under 130. I was correct on Santa Clara winning, but it turned into a bit of a shootout as the game rocketed past the over/under total. Santa Clara will now face the winner of San Francisco and Hawaii, which tips off late tonight at 10pm pacific at Hawaii. The Santa Clara-USF/Hawaii quarterfinal matchup will take place next Tuesday, March 22.

Santa Clara, CA (Sports Network) – Kevin Foster tied a career-high with 36 points as the Santa Clara Broncos downed the Air Force Falcons, 88-75, in a CollegeInsider.com Tournament second round matchup from the Leavey Center. Foster’s output came behind a single game school-record nine three-pointers. Marc Trasolini added 19 points and nine boards for the Broncos (21-14), who advance to play the winner of USF-Hawaii. Evan Roquemore contributed 15 points, while Raymond Cowels III added 12 points and seven boards. Michael Lyons led the Falcons (16-16) with 24 points, while Derek Brooks and Evan Washington added 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Santa Clara was locked-in from the opening tip, as it drained 10-of-17 first half three-pointers, to take a 43-37 lead into the break. The second half saw the Broncos outscore the Falcons 20-7 from the charity stripe to pull away for the win. With his performance from beyond the arc, Foster broke the West Coast Conference single season record for threes made. He has now made 129 shots from beyond the arc this season.
