The West Coast Conference announced their various end of season awards and as expected the first place St. Mary’s Gaels took home plenty of hardware. Saint Mary’s guard Mickey McConnell was named WCC Player of the Year. McConnell is also a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award (given to the nation’s top point guard). He averaged 16.8 points (WCC-3rd), 6.1 assists (WCC-1st), 2.6 assist-to-turnover ratio (WCC-1st), and a 47.5% three point percentage (WCC-1st).
Randy Bennett grabbed his second WCC Coach of the Year award, and first individual award after sharing the honor with Mark Few in 2008. Coach Bennett has led Gaels to a share of the conference regular season title for the first time since 1997. The Gaels won 17 of its first 19 games this season and went wire-to-wire in first place in the WCC.
The all conference team features three St. Mary’s players in McConnell, Matthew Dellavedova, and Rob Jones. The all-freshman team includes guard Stephen Holt. The teams are listed below:
