The San Francisco Dons and Loyola Marymount Lions met in San Francisco on New Year's Eve for WCC conference play. The Dons struggled valiantly to send the game to overtime, but the Lions managed to come away with the 77-76 OT win to improve to 8-6 overall and win in their first WCC matchup.
Michael Williams of the Dons sunk a three-pointer with just 0:12 remaining in regulation to knot the score at 70-70 and force an overtime. Angelo Caloiaro made a layup with 0:36 left in the first overtime to take a 76-75 lead, but Anthony Ireland made a jumper with 0:25 remaining to put the Lions back on top. After a turnover by Caloiaro, the Lions were able to hold on for the win.
Caloairo led all scorers with 26 points, also picking up six rebounds and two steals.
The Dons are now 0-2 in WCC play. They will play their next game on Saturday, January 7 as they travel to Utah to take on the Brigham Young Cougars.
