Cable Car Classic 2011: Santa Clara Broncos Open 45th Annual Tournament

The Santa Clara Broncos open the 45th annual Cable Car Classic with their penultimate nonconference game. The Broncos will play Eastern Michigan on Thursday and the winner or loser of Air Force-Wagner, depending on who wins and loses the two games. The Cable Car Classic is the longest running holiday tournament and has had at least one team from the field advance to the NCAA tournament in 31 of its 44 years thus far.

Santa Clara is coming off a rather shocking 72-71 loss to Houston Baptist in which the Broncos missed a pair of free throws with 1.9 seconds left. The loss dropped Santa Clara to 7-4 as they close out their non-conference schedule. Kevin Foster continues to lead the team in scoring, averaging 17.9 points per game. He is joined by Evan Roquemore who is averaging 14.9 points per game.

Eastern Michigan is working this season under first-year head coach Rob Murphy who spent the last seven years as an assistant at Syracuse. The Eagles are led by Darrell Lampley who is averaging 18.1 points per game and 2.7 assists per game. Jamell Harris leads the team in rebounds with 6.3 per game.
