The Braylon Edwards experiment is now over in San Francisco.

The San Francisco 49ers released Edwards today after Edwards suffered through lackluster production and injuries during his (almost) one season with the team.

Edwards announced his release on his website.

I was released today by the 49ers due to my injury that required more time to rehab and hasn't allowed me to re-sync with the offense. I wish the 49ers organization the best of luck during the Playoffs. I will be working hard this off season to strengthen my knee and prepare for the 2012 season. Thanks for your continued support and for being such loyal fans.

Edwards played in nine games but only managed 181 yards receiving and no touchdowns. The lack of production was hindered by a torn meniscus in his knee during Week 2 and a shoulder injury in Week 9 but was still a bit surprising with Edwards in a contract year. He'll be a free agent in March and he hopes to have his knee ready by that time.
