Nashville, TN (Sports Network) – Jeffery Taylor and John Jenkins each scored 19 points, as the Vanderbilt Commodores stayed perfect at home with an 89-70 victory over the 22nd-ranked Saint Mary’s-CA Gaels. Taylor also pulled down seven rebounds for the Commodores (14-4), who improved to 11-0 at Memorial Gym this season and have won 21 consecutive non-conference games at home.
Brad Tinsley donated 18 points and five boards for Vanderbilt, which is 3-1 against ranked teams this year. Lance Goulbourne had 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Matthew Dellavedova tallied 19 points for the Gaels (17-3), who had an 11-game winning streak snapped. Rob Jones finished with 15 points and six boards. The team’s leading scorer this season, Mickey McConnell, was held to six points and eight assists. This snapped a seven game streak of scoring in double digits.
This game marked the final non-conference game on the Gaels non-conference schedule. The team finished all non-conference play 12-3. St. Mary’s has nine games left on their regular season schedule and faces their toughest such contest when they travel to Spokane to face Gonzaga. A win over the Bulldogs would put St. Mary’s in the driver’s seat to take the regular season conference crown.
