The 49ers are making moves today. First it was the release of third string quarterback Nate Davis, and now it's the signing of free agent quarterback Troy Smith. Smith has been a starter and backup for the Baltimore Ravens, but he wanted out and was released by the team as he didn't want to be the third stringer on a team with a young franchise quarterback.
He'll come into San Francisco as the third quarterback, but one has to wonder if he has more long-term backup potential than David Carr, which is certainly a possibility.
