49ers Reportedly Set To Release Quarterback Nate Davis

Michael Lombardi is reporting via Twitter that the 49ers are going to formally release third string second year quarterback Nate Davis. Davis received criticisms from coach Singletary this preseason concerning his work ethic and drive. It appears there was merit to those criticisms.

Seeing as how there appears to be merit, it makes sense that Davis would be cut. He's a second-year quarterback with a learning disability out of the fifth round. If he's not doing what he needs to overcome his adversity and learn the playbook to the best of his abilities, then he has no place on Mike Singletary's no-nonsense roster.

The move would leave the team with two quarterbacks on the roster: starter Alex Smith and backup David Carr. Nate Davis is eligible for the eight-man practice squad (which the 49ers have filled, but could still shuffle around) if he clears waivers.
