49ers Cut 22 To Make 53-Man Roster Limit

New, 2 comments

The 49ers announced 22 cuts today to trim down from 75 players to the league mandatory 53-man active roster for the 2010 NFL season. Teams have until Saturday at 6 p.m. to make their cuts, but it appears head coach Mike Singletary isn't the kind of guy who likes to wait around for deadlines to blow past him. The 22 cuts are as follows:

QB Jarrett Brown
RB Michael Robinson
FB Brit Miller
FB Jehuu Caulcrick
TE Tony Curtis
TE Joe Jon Finley
WR Jason Hill
WR Bobby Guillory
WR Kevin Jurovich
OT Matt Kopa
OG Brian de la Puente
Cody Wallace
DL Khalif Mitchell
DE Will Tukuafu
DT Derek Walker
LB Bruce Davis
LB Keaton Kristick
LB Matt Wilhelm
LB Mike Balogun
CB Karl Paymah
Chris Maragos
Shane Andrus

As such, the current 53-man roster is as follows:

Quarterbacks (3) Alex Smith, David Carr, Nate Davis
Running Backs (3) Frank GoreBrian Westbrook, Anthony Dixon
Fullbacks (1) Moran Norris
Tight Ends (3) Vernon DavisDelanie WalkerNate Byham
Wide Receivers (5) Michael CrabtreeJosh Morgan, Ted Ginn, Dominique Zeigler, Kyle Williams
Offensive Line (10) Joe StaleyMike IupatiEric HeitmannChilo Rachal, Anthony Davis, Barry Sims,David BaasTony WraggeAdam SnyderAlex Boone

Defensive Line (6) Isaac SopoagaAubrayo FranklinJustin SmithRay McDonald, Ricky Jean Francois,Demetric Evans

Safeties (5) Dashon Goldson, Michael Lewis, Taylor MaysReggie SmithCurtis Taylor

Specialists (3) Joe NedneyAndy LeeBrian Jennings

It appears there will be some moves over the coming days, as is definitely possible as other teams make their cuts. The 49ers have a seemingly high number of offensive linemen and outside linebackers, but low numbers of defensive lineman and inside linebackers, so the team will definitely keep an eye on the waiver wire.

The buzz right now is the release of running back Michael Robinson, who has, in the past been a pro bowl alternate special teamer as well as the special teams captain for them the past few seasons. Singletary said that he only wanted players who contributed elsewhere, and with three talented running backs in front of him, there was no way for Robinson to do that.
