Down By The Bay: Tough Losses And Blowouts

NCAA football and baseball took over the Bay Area yesterday, and we had a few good games, if I do say so myself. Not the best of outcomes in some of them, but that's the way it goes sometimes. Today, we've got NFL action, and that's something to be excited for. Why don't we get to it?

After the jump is all you need to know when it comes to the A's, Giants, 49ers, Raiders, Warriors, Sharks and all of Bay Area sports is laid in front of you by myself, as per our team specific blogs. So jump when I say jump... jump.

The Giants failed to maintain the lead for the NL West title, losing a close game to the Rockies at, you guessed it, Coors Field. It was touch-and-go for awhile there, and just when it looked like the Giants might be home free, Brian Wilson goes and screws up a save for the fifth time this year. McCovey Chronicles has a postgame thread.

The A's took a loss yesterday, allowing the Rangers to clinch the AL West. Athletics Nation looked at this the best way possible, and used their congratulations as kind of a postgame thread.

Beyond that, they also took a look at the usage and fallacies of UZR in the MLB.

Niners Nation took a look at the Kansas City Chiefs and their pass rush, and how that should affect the 49ers, namely Alex Smith and the passing game as a whole. It should be interesting, the Chiefs are young and hungry.

They also had their Madden "simulation," which picked the 49ers to win the game.

The Raiders play the Cardinals later today, and I have to admit, I'm pretty excited. Mostly because I'm a 49ers fan and I want to see the Cardinals lose, but you know. Silver and Black Pride took a look at two players who should make headlines for their performances today.

Also, if you missed it, one of our contributors put together a great feature on Oakland's quarterback switch here on SB Nation Bay Area.

Hockey seems so far away, and I hate it, because, while I've missed the Sharks preseason up until this point, just catching a split second of action on Sports Center had me going insane. I need Sharks hockey. Fear The Fin has an update on the team's preseason up until this point. I'm just happy skates are on ice, at this point.

Hoping it's a good year for our Warriors, either way, the season is getting closer and closer. Golden State of Mind has a post on the training camp rosters being set, and all it's done is make me want more and more basketball. I wasn't even huge on the NBA before I started writing for SBNBA, now I'm basically hooked. Surreal.

Cal Bears

It wasn't a good day for the Golden Bears, as they picked up a loss in Arizona. California Golden Blogs has a postgame thread on the matter, and it's not pretty.

Stanford

Stanford has a good game, though, getting the win in a pretty exciting fashion. I was glued to this game. Rule of Tree (that's our new Stanford blog, folks, you can follow them @RuleofTree and visit them at Rule of Tree) has a postgame thread. After the initial thread with thoughts on the game, they had another post, looking at some good things, including the running back situation.
