Jose Guillen Slams Giants To 9-2 Win Over Brewers

The San Francisco Giants climbed back into first place with a 9-2 thrashing of the Milwaukee Brewers. The Giants jumped on Chris Narveson early thanks to a Jose Guillen grand slam. Guillen has been a huge boost to the Giants since he was designated for assignment by the Royals. He followed up the grand slam with an RBI single in the fifth inning that brought in two more runs. The Giants added three in the seventh on a Pat Burrell homerun, which was more than enough for the victory.

Giants pitcher Barry Zito lasted six innings, holding the Brewers to two runs on three hits. Five Giants relievers combined to close out the final three innings for the victory.

Prior to the Giants win the Padres dropped the series finale to the Cardinals and thus dropped half a game back of the Giants in the NL West. The Rockies and Dodgers are currently battling in extra innings in a 6-6 tie. The Rockies jumped out to a 6-1 lead, but the Dodgers chipped away and eventually tied it up on a Matt Kemp double in the bottom of the ninth. If the Rockies win they’ll move into a tie with the Padres for second, a half game out of first.
