Rumor: A's Likely to Call Up Chris Carter From AAA

New, 3 comments

In today’s series finale, Daric Barton left the game with shoulder spasms. Prior to the game, Matt Watson was ruled out with kidney stones. Given the injury concerns, it should not be surprising that the A’s are looking to the minor leagues for some reinforcements.

What should excite A’s fans is the fact that the team is rumored to be planning on adding prized prospect Chris Carter to the major league roster. Carter has been mashing the ball in AAA to the tune of 27 HRs and 89 RBIs. He’s a guy the A’s have looked to as a future masher and now would be as good a time as any to see what the young man can do.

The team has been hoping to build a long-term offense around Carter and OF Michael Taylor but many thought it wouldn’t happen until next year at the earliest, even with potential September call-ups. Now, the team could give Carter a test-drive in the midst of must-win games.

With the injury to Watson as well, the team is expected to also call up IF Jeff Larish. Larish was claimed off waivers from Detroit on July 30 and is hitting .417 for the Sacramento Rivercats in the 5 games since he was claimed.
