Super Six World Boxing Classic: Andre Ward's Next Fight Likely To Be Delayed

Super middleweight champion, and Oakland's own Andre Ward has been working on scheduling his next fight in the Super Six World Boxing Classic for Sept. 25. Ward's next fight is against fellow American Andre Dirrell, who pulled off a bit of an upset over hard-punching Arthur Abraham. The two fighters had been undefeated entering the tournament and had held off fighting each other up to this point. Dirrell lost a controversial decision to Carl Froch in his opening match but remains in the hunt to advance to the elimination rounds with his win over Abraham.

Unfortunately, it appears the fight will be delayed because of a dispute over fight location. The battle has been between Oakland (Ward's hometown) and Detroit (Dirrell's quasi-hometown). Ward has fought his first two fights in Oakland, which would be a mark against him in potentially winning this battle for the fight location. However, as SC pointed out in the link above, the fight wouldn't make the kind of money in Detroit that it could in Oakland. We'll keep you updated with how this plays out in the coming days and weeks.
