The Chicago White Sox took care of business winning the rubber match over the Oakland A’s 4-1. Gavin Floyd gave up 1 run on 4 hits through 7 innings and the White Sox bullpen locked down the A’s the rest of the way. Gio Gonzalez had a career high 11 strikeouts, but a 4-run 5th inning was enough to do him in.
Gonzalez and Floyd combined to retire 28 straight hitters before Gonzalez was rocked in the fifth to the tune of 4 runs on 4 hits. Gonzalez settled down after that, but the A’s offense could not match against Floyd. They managed a run in the sixth inning, but after loading the bases with 1 out, Floyd got Jack Cust on a strikeout and Kevin Kouzmanoff on a ground out to escape the threat.
