A's Open Three Game Series At Chicago White Sox

With the trade deadline less than 24 hours away, the Oakland A's sit 8.5 games back of the Texas Rangers and trying to decide whether they'll be buyers or sellers. Whether they go one way or the other, they're still beginning a tough series tonight at U.S. Cellular Field against the AL Central leading Chicago White Sox.

The A's managed to take two of three last weekend against the White Sox, but the White Sox at home are much better than the White Sox on the road. The White Sox are 31-19 at home and are currently riding a 12-game home winning streak.

The first game is particularly intriguing as the A's welcome back Brett Anderson. The timing of Anderson's return is huge given the loss of Ben Sheets for the season. If Anderson can manage to stay healthy the rest of the season (a big "if" at this point), he could provide a nice little injection of momentum as the A's head into the dog days of August.

This weekend is a perfect opportunity for the team to make up some ground in the West. The Rangers are traveling to Anaheim to face the Angels. Both sides will trot out their newly acquired aces in Dan Haren and Cliff Lee, although they won't face each other. If the A's can win this series in Chicago and the Angels grab 2 of 3 from the Rangers, the A's would certainly be in a much better position heading into August.
