Per Susan Slusser, the A’s placed Dallas Braden on the 15-day disabled list and officially added Clay Mortensen to the roster. Mortensen will make the emergency start in place of Braden, who continues to battle elbow stiffness. Mortensen was pitching well at Sacramento, and will look to prove last year’s time with the A’s was an anomaly, when he struggled mightily.
Mortensen and the A’s will face Jake Westbrook looking to win for the seventh time in eight games. Westbrook has struggled a bit this season, and holds a 4.60 ERA at home. In his last start against the A’s this season, Westbrook lasted give innings and gave up four runs.
