Multiple media sources are reporting that the Giants have worked out a deal to send catcher and world's slowest man Bengie Molina to the Rangers for Chris Ray and a player to be named later. Apparently the Giants will also pay the Rangers approximately $2 million to make up the difference between Molina and Ray. Due to the exchange of cash, the deal is awaiting approval from MLB Commissioner Bud Selig.
Such a deal would leave the Giants with Buster Posey and Eli Whiteside as potential catching options. The Giants have given Posey a lot of time at first base, so it remains to be seen whether they think he can be the long term answer at catcher.
We'll have more details as they come out, but for now, join the trade discussion over at McCovey Chronicles.
