Rocky Meszaros-who had 132 yards on 22 carries- scored his second touchdown of the game with less than three minutes remaining in the game on a 4-yard run to give Mitty a 40-37 lead, but Serra stormed back, driving 57 yards to set up the game-tying field goal in the final seconds.

In the point barrage, both teams abandoned their passing games, instead rushing for a collective 760 yards on 91 carries.

Serrra star running back Erich Wilson returned after missing two games with a shoulder injury and didn't disappoint, rushing for 200 yards on 18 carries. Fellow backfield mate Mark Timko added 120 yards.

Mitty RB Kyle Boehm rushed for 100 yards and Joe De Cecco added 120 yards.

"We couldn't protect our quarterback," Mitty senior lineman Parker Smith said. "But we were still getting a good push off the ball, and Kyle (Boehm) made some great decisions."

Serra's 17-6 lead in the first quarter was the biggest lead of the game, and Mitty outscored Serra 34-23 the rest of of the game, including 14-9 in the final quarter.

Serra has the better overall record of the two (5-2-1 to 4-3-1), but both are tied in division play (3-1-1), the determinant of the standings.
