Anderson, who was interested in Cal, Arizona State and other schools in California, decided to head out-of-state. He talked about why he chose to head to Wisconsin with the Golden Eagles blog at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
What made you choose Marquette: "I was comfortable with the school and the program as a whole. The academics speak for themselves. It's a really great academic school. Coach Benford and Coach Williams did a heck of a job. They made me feel comfortable with them. They made Coach Young and my mother feel comfortable with them as well. I know they're going to take care of me well when I'm there. And it's the best conference in the nation, and I'm going to take advantage of the opportunity to go play against the best of the best. They're not recruiting me for no reason. It's a new experience. And I love the fact that everybody says, 'West Coast kids don't go to the East Coast.' Well, don't generalize, because I'm different. I want to take on a challenge. I like challenges. I want to prove everybody wrong who's been doubting me. But overall it was a family decision. My mom felt comfortable, and I just woke up (Wednesday) and I told her, 'Marquette is where I'm going.' "
Why did he turn down Cal? Jeff Faraudo finds the answer.
"It's appealing to play in front of all your friends and family," he said. "I wanted to venture out and try something new."
Anderson is currently ranked 19th at his position and 69th overall nationwide by Rivals. Here's how ESPN projects his college career to go.
Bottom Line:
If Anderson can consistently stick the outside shot, he'll definitely be able to contribute at the high-major level. He affects the game on many levels and he plays with purpose. His frame has filled out and as a result he plays much bigger now at both ends. At this stage he may be the top 3-man in the west, although it's not a formidable group of wings for his class.
