The USA Today/Coaches Poll is out and the latest college football rankings have the Stanford Cardinal holding steady for the second straight week at number 14 in all the land. The Cardinal took care of business down at The Farm, defeating the relatively hapless Washington State Cougars 38-28. The victory was not nearly as close as the ten point deficit would otherwise indicate. Stanford led 38-14 midway through the fourth quarter and gave up two garbage touchdowns to the Cougars.
The Cardinal hung steady amidst a sea of activity around them. The 12th ranked Iowa Hawkeyes dropped to 19th thanks to a tough home loss to Wisconsin. Meanwhile, the formerly 16th ranked Missouri Tigers road a victory over BCS No. 1 Oklahoma to the 8th spot in the polls. There was some jockeying of other teams around the Cardinal and it will be interesting to see how these changes affect the next BCS rankings.
Stanford travels to play a struggling Washington Huskies squad that has alternated wins and losses all season long and is currently 3-4.
In other news, the California Golden Bears are actually getting a few votes following their whooping of the Arizona State Sun Devils. Cal is receiving three votes this week. They travel to face an Oregon State squad that has been in and out of the polls over the course of the season, but is currently receiving no votes.
