Despite playing without leading rusher Erich Wilson (shoulder), The SF Chronicle’s No. 9 Metro Area team, Serra, upset No. 7 St. Francis in a grind-it-out, hard-nosed defensive struggle Saturday.
Serra committed three turnovers to St. Francis’ zero, but was still able to come away with the "W" when St. Francis scored with 1:09 left in the game and decided to go for the two-point conversion and the win. St. Francis QB Wil Smith passed to top receiver Braden Bishop for the win but:
Bishop actually made a juggling catch but was ruled out of the back of the end zone.
Serra’s Jordan Satterwhile recovered the ensuing onside kick, and the ninth-ranked Padres (4-2) ran out the clock. Alex Bravo rushed for 68 yards and scored Serra’s only touchdown, a 1-yard run right before halftime.
Serra sophomore RB Eric Redwood played well in Wilson’s absence, with 81 yards on 14 carries.
St. Francis is now 3-2-1 (no, that’s not a countdown).
