The Warriors are emerging as a legitimate contender in the Western Conference, while the Kings are struggling with consistency.

The Bay Area's basketball teams are headed in different directions in SB Nation's latest NBA Power Rankings as compiled by Seth Rosenthal.

Following a strong week that saw them saw them post a 3-1 and knock off upset the Heat in Miami, the Golden State Warriors (16-8) are up two spots from last week's rankings to No. 7. The lone blemish on the Warriors' slate from last week was a let down loss to the Magic following the big win in Miami. Rosenthal cites the team's excellent rebounding and much-improved team defense as reasons why the Warriors have become a force to be reckoned with.

The Sacramento Kings (7-16) didn't fare so well in this week's poll. After dropping four straight games last week, the Kings are down five spots to No. 27. Rosenthal suggests that their struggles could continue with games against the Los Angeles Clippers and the Warriors ahead of them. Their next chance to stop the skid comes on Monday night against a Phoenix Suns squad that is playing solid basketball of late.
