Draymond Green playing good defense for Warriors

USA TODAY Sports

Draymond Green is averaging 2.6 points and 3.1 rebounds this season.

Rookie Draymond Green has gradually earned more playing time with the Golden State Warriors this season and has become the team's defensive anchor when he's on the floor, according to CSNBayArea.com.

Green started the second half against the Brooklyn Nets on Dec. 7 and helped the Warriors secure a 109-102 win by recording six points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals. The almost 28 minutes and 10 rebounds were both career highs for the rookie out of Michigan State.

Green, the Warriors' second-round (35th overall) pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, has worked himself into coach Mark Jackson's rotation and credits his college coach, Tom Izzo, for developing his defensive vision and abilities.

Green told CSNBayArea that he was the "voice of the defense" at Michigan State so he always needed to "know where everybody had to be and what they had to do."

Green also understands that his role on the team is to "bring some defense and energy" to the game.
