Warriors preseason: Mark Jackson unsure of Stephen Curry's playing time

Cary Emondson-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Warriors head coach Mark Jackson doesn't want to overwork his point guard in the preseason, but Stephen Curry is eager to get back on the court.

Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry missed 40 games last season with an ankle injury, and head coach Mark Jackson wants to play it safe with the sharpshooter's playing time. Jackson would like to sit Curry out in one of the Warriors' first two preseason games, which come on back-to-back nights. Curry doesn't like that plan, as he wants to see as much game action as possible.

Jackson spoke with reporters on Saturday about the situation, and emphasized that the decision falls on him, according to CSN Bay Area:

"I’m going to think about it, talk to Steph about it," Jackson said. "I’m going to think about it and make the right decision as far as that’s concerned. I really don’t want to work him back-to-back nights. I’ll make a decision as to whether he plays tomorrow or Monday."

Curry is an important piece in the Warriors' offense, and one of the best three-point shooters in the NBA. He has hit 44% from beyond the arc in his first three seasons as a pro. Beyond scoring, he also works as a distributor for Golden State, handing out 5.8 assists per game.

The Warriors start their preseason schedule against the Lakers at 7 p.m. PT on Sunday night in Fresno.
