Warriors arena update: Team unveils artist drawings

The 17,500-capacity waterfront arena would would be located in the 13-acre area in a southern stretch of the Embarcadero on Piers 30-32.

The Golden State Warriors have revealed an artist rendering of the team's future home in San Francisco, according to CSN Bay Area.

The proposed arena, which the team hopes to relocate to in time for the 2017-18 NBA season, is expected to hold roughly 17,500 people and would take up no less than 50% of the 13-acre area in a southern stretch of the Embarcadero on Piers 30-32. The arena will be financed 100-percent privately, and the grand total for the project is expected to to cost between $500 and $600 million ($75-$100 million for a retrofitting of the existing area and $400-$500 million for the arena itself). The renderings also suggest that an open-air arena, a "bay cinema" and a boat launching dock where visitors can embark on kayak trips into McCovey Cove.

The architecture team in charge of the project is Snøhetta and AECOM, part of the team responsible for the SFMOMA expansion.
