Stanford vs. Colorado preview: Kevin Hogan's playing time could lead to re-charged offense

Kelley L Cox-US PRESSWIRE

Stanford could make a few changes with the way they use their quarterbacks.

The Stanford Cardinal offense has struggled at times this season. Heisman finalist Andrew Luck is gone, and incumbent starter Josh Nunes has been prone to turnovers and inconsistency during much of Pac-12 play.

Stanford coach David Shaw said this week that freshman quarterback Kevin Hogan will see a larger role and more snaps in the coming games. As SB Nation's blog, Rule of Tree, explained in this report, Shaw still has Nunes listed as his starting quarterback, but that his job is not safe. He also said Hogan has earned more playing time in practice.

It may not be a bad idea to incorporate Hogan into the offense this week. The Buffaloes are one of college football's worst defensive teams, surrendering 46 points per game to their opponents. If Hogan does indeed see extended playing time, he could be in for a big day.

Stanford and Colorado are set to kickoff at 11 a.m. PT on Saturday, Nov. 3.
