The Stanford Cardinal hosted the Illinois St. Redbirds Monday night in the second round of the NIT Tournament at Maples Pavilion, taking it down to the wire and then some. But Chasson Randle's 3-pointer with just over a minute left in overtime put ahead to stay the Card up for good, advancing to the semifinals with a 92-88 victory.
Aaron Bright led the way for Stanford (23-11, 10-8 Pac-12) hit six 3-pointers en route to a career-high 29 points for the Card, who overcame a 11-point deficit to ensure their victory. As for Randle, he finished with 19 points while Dwight Powell added a season-high 18 points. Josh Owens became the 40th player in Stanford men's basketball histroyto score 1,000 points as well, dropping seven on the night.
Nic Moore scored a career high 25 points for the Redbirds (21-14), who just so happened to work their way into their third consecutive overtime game. Tyler Brown added 23 points, while Jackie Carmichael had 21 points.
Stanford now hosts the Nevada Wolf Pac on Wednesday for the change to move on to Madison Square Garden.
