Stanford vs. San Diego: Cardinal Rides Strong Defensive Effort To 64-48 Victory

Stanford, CA (Sports Network) – Andrew Zimmermann scored 14 points off the bench to lead the Stanford Cardinal to a 64-48 victory over the San Diego Toreros at Maples Pavilion. Gabriel Harris added 12 points for Stanford (1-0), while Josh Owens tallied eight points in the win. As for the Toreros (1-1), they were led by Darian Norris and Devin Ginty, who scored 10 points apiece in the loss.

Stanford went into the break with a 35-19 lead after holding San Diego to a meager 31.8 percent shooting effort from the field in the first half. The Cardinal only shot 40.7 percent from the floor in the second stanza, but that was good enough for them to earn a 16-point win. Stanford dominated the glass in the contest, out-rebounding the Toreros, 40-27, on the night.

The Cardinal next host the Virginia Cavaliers on Thursday at 7:00pm pacific time. The Cavs improved to 2-0 tonight with a victory over USC Upstate. Stanford’s season opens with five home games before they go on the road for what could be their toughest game of the season at the Butler Bulldogs, last year’s national runner up.
