San Jose State vs. La. Tech preview: Spartans prepare for the Bulldogs high-octane offense

Thearon W. Henderson

The Spartans only have one thing on their mind - a 10-win season.

The San Jose St. Spartans take on the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. PT on Nov. 24 on ESPN2. The Spartans are 9-2 overall, 4-1 in the WAC and have won five straight games.

The Spartans are eyeing a 10-win season for just the seventh time in school history and only the third as a major college football program. Head coach Mike MacIntyre and his team have a lot on the line with the Bulldogs in town.

Junior wide receiver Noel Grigsby had this to say in the San Jose Mercury News:

"We want to get to double-digit wins. 10-2 sounds way better than 9-3. That's what we're aiming for."

The last time the Spartans won 10 games was 1987. None of the players on the team were born at the time.

The Spartans received votes for the first time in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls and defeating a team like the Bulldogs, who have been previously ranked this season, will go a long way in their national perception as a top-flight program.

The Spartans have been successful behind a 12th-ranked passing attack (323.9 yards ppg) and a defense that's only giving up 19.5 points. That defense will be tested as the Bulldogs have the highest-scoring team in the country with a staggering average of 52.3 points and a passing attack ranked fifth in the country (338.7). The defense isn't that great though which leads to a lot of shootouts.

This could be a great one between two teams with identical records.
