San Jose State vs. Idaho: Spartans need win for bowl eligibility

Evan Habeeb-US PRESSWIRE

San Jose State has six wins this season, but they've still got work to do.

The San Jose State Spartans have been pretty successful on the football field in 2012, posting a record of 6-2 through the first two months of play. Despite having enough wins to be bowl eligible, the team still has work to do.

SJSU may have six wins, but two have come against FCS schools. NCAA rules dictate only one win against an FCS program can count towards a team's bowl eligibility, meaning the Spartans have to win at least one more game this season.

If San Jose State is able to pick up another win, their bowl options will still be limited if they don't win the WAC. As the Mercury News reported on Thursday, only the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl has a direct tie to the conference. If the Spartans don't receive a bid to that game, they're essentially a free agent looking for a spot to play. The team then has to worry about not being selected or having to travel across country for a low-level game.

If the team is able to keep winning games, none of this should be an issue. SJSU hits the road to take on Idaho at 2 p.m. this Saturday.
