San Jose State vs. Texas State preview: Spartans inch toward bowl eligibility

Evan Habeeb-US PRESSWIRE

The San Jose State Spartans eye a bowl game bid and host the Texas State Bobcats on Saturday.

The San Jose State Spartans face the Texas State Bobcats at Spartan Stadium on Saturday with an eye on their sixth victory of the season.

With a 1-1 record in the WAC, San Jose State (5-2) is coming off a 52-24 victory against the University of Texas-San Antonio.

Meanwhile, Texas State (3-3, 1-0 WAC) won in a big way last week, topping the Idaho Vandals 38-7 to snap a two-game losing streak. That momentum will be needed for the Bobcats, who score 26 points per game and take on a defense that gives up just 23 a night.

Texas State faces a San Jose State offense that produces an average of 33 points per game.

The Spartans score with a passing attack that ranks 10th in the nation. San Jose State averages 322 passing yards per game thanks to quarterback David Fales, who has thrown for 2,146 yards and 15 touchdowns to just three interceptions.

The game will be the first meeting between the two WAC teams.
