San Jose State vs. UTSA score: Spartans move out to 28-0 lead in first quarter

Coming off a tough loss last weekend, the San Jose St. Spartans wanted to come out and make a statement against the UTSA Roadrunners on Saturday. SJSU has done just that, taking a 28-0 lead after just one quarter of play.

Quarterback David Fales stole the show in the early going. The junior has thrown for 124 yards and three touchdowns, completing four of his six pass attempts. Four tailbacks for the Spartans all have more than 10 yards despite a limited number of carries.

The first score of the game came on a five-play, 58-yard drive from San Jose State. Fales hit Noel Grigsby down the field for a 36-yard touchdown pass. On their next drive, SJSU scored again on a 10-yard touchdown rush Blake Jurich to make the score 14-0.

Following another stop for the defense, Fales led the offense on another touchdown drive. He connected with receiver Tyler Ervin for a 36-yard touchdown. UTSA then had a bad snap on their punt attempt, which was recovered in the end zone to give SJSU a 28-0 lead.

Following a fumble by UTSA, San Jose State has the ball again at the end of the first quarter.
