San Jose Sharks Sign Alex Stalock, Bracken Kearns

The San Jose Sharks signed four more players today, including goalie Alex Stalock and center Bracken Kearns.

Stalock is one of the Sharks' top prospects. For now he's being signed for their AHL affiliate, but he's always an option to be on the full roster at any point in the season. They're set as far as goalies go with Antti Niemi likely to man things back for the Sharks for quite some time, but Stalock is an important piece to have around.

Kevin Kurz of Comcast Sports Net has more with regards to Stalock.

Stalock, 24, is the biggest name of the four, as he remains one of the organization’s top prospects. Originally drafted in the fourth round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Stalock missed most of the 2011-12 season with a serious nerve injury behind his left knee that occurred a year earlier.

The Kearns has played with the AHL affiliate for the Sharks in Worcester. Kurz adds the following details.

A Vancouver native, Kearns will presumably begin next year playing for the Sharks’ AHL affiliate in Worcester. In his seven-year pro career, Kearns has played in just five NHL games, all coming last season with the Florida Panthers. He was scoreless with 10 penalty minutes.

The Sharks also signed Danny Groulx and Matt Irwin, two other players meant mainly to spend time filling out their AHL affiliate roster.

Discuss Stalock and Kearns and the host of signings with Sharks fans by heading on over to Fear the Fin.
