San Jose Sharks Rumors: Could Todd McLellan Be Headed To Calgary?

The Sharks are just about a week removed from playing their final game of the season, but there have already been plenty of rumors flying around the team. There is little doubt that head coach Todd McLellan is qualified to lead a talented hockey club, but there have been some wondering whether or not he will return next year.

McLellan is still yet to receive a public vote of confidence from ownership, and there could be an attractive opening in Calgary should he become unemployed. Here is Kevin Kurz of CSNBayArea.com with the latest:

He's still the head coach of the San Jose Sharks, but Todd McLellan's name is already being mentioned as a possible replacement for Brent Sutter in Calgary.

The Flames and Sutter agreed to part ways a couple weeks ago when Calgary failed to make the postseason for the third straight spring. The search for Sutter's replacement is underway, with GM Jay Feaster heading it up.

Vicki Hall of the Calgary Herald writes:

One possible candidate is Todd McLellan, head coach of the San Jose Sharks. Should GM Doug Wilson decide to go in a different direction, McLellan has family in the Calgary area and an impressive resume to boot.

The Sharks may benefit from a coaching change, but it's always dangerous when switching up a coaching staff on a team that finished a few points back of a division title. Still, though, should they make a move, you would have to think McLellan would have no problem finding employment elsewhere.
