Sharks NHL Standings Update: Stars, Coyotes And Kings All Lose On Thursday, Sharks Remain On Top

The San Jose Sharks had an off day on Thursday after dropping an overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks. Despite the loss, the Sharks sat in first place. They did, however, have three of the other four teams in the Pacific Division within two points of them. All three of those teams played on Thursday, so the Sharks likely spent the evening watching games or repeatedly checking the scores.

The good news for the Sharks is that they're still in possession of a share of first place. The Los Angeles Kings moved into a tie with San Jose, as they matched the Sharks' 42 points by picking up a point with an overtime loss against the Winnipeg Jets.

The other two teams chasing the Sharks did not fare quite as well. The Dallas Stars were unable to gain any ground and are stuck in third place with 41 points following a 4-1 loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets, who are by most respects the worst team in the league.

Also very much in the hunt are the Phoenix Coyotes, who sit in fourth place with 40 points. They suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Colorado Avalanche.

The Sharks have to be feeling good about all three teams losing on Thursday when each of them had a chance to gain more ground.
