Giants Vs. Padres Final Score: San Francisco Drops Series Finale

One day after the San Francisco Giants clinched the National League West crown, manager Bruce Bochy elected to rest a majority of his everyday regulars. Despite a late comeback attempt in the ninth inning, the San Diego Padres held on to beat San Francisco by a score of 6-4.

With the bases loaded and just one out, Buster Posey came to the plate as a pinch-hitter in the ninth. With the Giants trailing 6-3, Posey worked the count in his favor before grounding into a force out, which plated a run. Ryan Theriot came up with the game-tying run at first base, but he lined out sharply to center field to end the game.

Yusmeiro Petit made the start for the Giants and lasted just 4 2/3 innings. He surrendered two runs on seven hits and four walks, striking out only one batter. Eric Stults made the start for the Padres and worked six innings of three-run ball.

With the loss, the Giants are now 89-63 this season. Home field advantage in the playoffs is unlikely at this point, so do not be surprised if Bochy continues rolling out lineups similar to the one he employed on Sunday afternoon. The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for San Francisco.
