On Sunday, the 2012 MLB Futures Game took place in Kansas City at Kauffman Stadium, unofficially kicking off the All-Star break. Minor leaguers from all over the country tussled on a national stage as U.S.-born prospects took on foreign-born prospects. In the end, the U.S. Futures team was able to slug their way to an easy 17-5 victory.
The San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics each fielded a starter for the U.S. Futures team. Giants catcher Tommy Joseph went 1-for-1 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run scored, while A's left fielder Michael Choice was 0-for-2 with a strikeout.
Nick Castellanos of the Detroit Tigers organization took home the MVP award by going 3-for-4 with a three-run homer.
