'SportsCenter' has been known to air some fantastic commercials in the past. Eli and Peyton Manning roughhousing like a couple of brothers in the hallway. Maria Sharapova getting a saved seat because of her looks. Arnold Palmer making his famous tea in the cafeteria. David Ortiz trying on a Yankees hat, just for the Red Sox mascot to walk in and pass out due to shock.
They're almost always great, and bring some laughs in a short amount of time.
So when word came that Buster Posey had done a commercial with ESPN, there were high hopes. But after watching it a few times, you can't help but feel disappointed.
Here's the video:
It just seems awkward, doesn't it?
We all know that Posey won the National League Rookie of the Year Award in 2010, and Giants fans will never forget how he helped lead the Giants to a World Series championship that fall. This isn't funny or groundbreaking. If anything the commercial should be baseball related, not of a catcher typing an e-mail with an umpire looking over his shoulder.
It does get Sage Steele into the 30-second clip which is always a plus, but what role does she really have other than to get Buster out of the cubicle? His job is to catch the baseball for an umpire to rule a ball or strike, so it isn't exactly like he would be uncomfortable with someone standing behind him.
What are your thoughts on the commercial?
