Pablo Sandoval Sexual Assault Investigation: Announcement Delayed Until Next Week

San Francisco Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval has been waiting for the Santa Cruz Sheriff's Department to release the findings of their investigation into sexual assault allegations against the NL All-Star, and whether or not to recommend criminal prosecution against him.

Apparently he will have to wait some more as CSN Bay Area reports that the announcement has been pushed back to next week.

In a statement released this morning, Deputy April Skalland had this to say about the investigation:

Detectives received more returns on evidence yesterday and are working on completing their reports. We will not have any new information on the Pablo Sandoval case until next week.

The incident in questions took place on June 1 at the Seascape Beach Resort in Santa Cruz County after a woman filed a complaint around 4:25 a.m. against Sandoval, whom set met earlier that night in downtown Santa Cruz. Sandoval was on the disabled list after wrist surgery to remove his hamate bone at the time.

The alleged victim submitted a sexual assault forensic evidence kit at a local hospital. Sandoval's attorney, Eric Geffon, maintains any sexual activity was indeed consensual.

The 25-year old Sandoval is batting .295 so far this year with seven home runs for San Francisco, along with 28 RBI and a .371 OBP.
