This week, the Giants’ minor league affiliates (except Salem-Keizer) all have their All-Star Break, which means no games were played last night. However, some games were played on Sunday and some of the young prospects performed quite well.
AAA: Fresno, which stands in first place at 45-25, defeated Salt Lake City 4-2 on Sunday night. Conor Gillaspie hit a 3-run pinch-hit home run in the eighth inning and Heath Hembree pitched a scoreless ninth for the save. Hembree and Jean Machi each recorded two saves in the four game sweep of SLC.
AA: Richmond beat Portland 5-4 on Sunday and has now won 6 of 7 games. Gary Brown only recorded one hit in the game, but stole two bases. His SB total for the season stands at 18. Richmond is in fourth place with a record of 34-35, but hopes to build momentum in the second half.
A+: San Jose was off Sunday night and will not play again until Thursday. They are in second place at 38-32.
A: Augusta fell 4-3 to Greenville on Sunday night, despite the efforts of pitcher Derek Law, who struck out five in three innings and only gave up a single run. Greenville plays again Wednesday night, and stands in sixth place at 32-37.
A-SS: Salem-Keizer lost to Boise 6-4 in 11 innings on Monday night, marking their first loss on the year. They stand at 3-1 overall. OF Chuckie Jones hit a double and a home run, but struck out three times. He has huge power but also a terrible strikeout problem and appears to be a "three true outcome" player.
