Giants Fall To Marlins 2-1 Despite Matt Cain's Strong Effort

Ricky Nolasco has dominated the Giants in recent history, and tonight was no different. Nolasco pitched 7.1 innings, scattering 7 hits, striking out one and walking one. He let eight men on base, but none made it around to score save Pablo Sandoval, who blasted a solo home run to right field in the sixth inning, his fifth home run of the year.

The Giants had numerous opportunities to score, but Nolasco worked out of jams all night long. He intentionally walked the bases loaded in the eighth inning after a Gregor Blanco double and an Angel Pagan sacrifice bunt which was mishandled by catcher Brett Hayes, but reliever Edward Mujica came in and got Buster Posey to ground into a double play, ending the threat.

Matt Cain had another typical great start at home, pitching eight innings while allowing six hits and walking one, with four strikeouts. He only allowed an RBI single to Hanley Ramirez in the fourth inning and a fifth-inning home run to Giancarlo Stanton. However, those runs would prove all the Marlins would need tonight, as the Giants continue their streak of awful hitting with runners in scoring position.

The next game will be Wednesday, May 2nd with Carlos Zambrano facing off with Barry Zito.

First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m. PT with coverage on CSN Bay Area and KNBR 680 AM in the Bay Area, and Fox Sports Florida and WZXY 790 AM in and around Miami.
