Giants Defeat Padres 4-1 Behind Madison Bumgarner's Stellar Start

The San Francisco Giants claimed a series victory over the Padres on Sunday afternoon at AT&T Park, winning the third and final game of the series over the San Diego Padres by a score of 4-1. Madison Bumgarner continued his fine work on the mound, Pablo Sandoval homered again and Santiago Casilla picked up another save.

Bumgarner worked 7.2 innings and allowed just one run to score on six hits and a walk. The young lefty struck out six batters and improved his ERA to 2.53 on the season. Sergio Romo came in for relief of Bumgarner with two outs in the eighth inning and promptly record a harmless flyout, ending a scoring threat for the Padres.

Melky Cabrera drove in the first run of the game with a deep sacrifice fly to score Angel Pagan. Pablo Sandoval followed with a solo homer to left to give the Giants an early 2-0 lead.

Chris Denorfia doubled in a run in the fifth inning, cutting the lead to just 2-1, but that was the only scoring San Diego would come away with on Sunday.

Joaquin Arias came up with a huge two-RBI triple in the sixth inning to extend the lead to 4-1, which proved to be the nail in the coffin for the Padres. Casilla surrendered a walk in the ninth inning, but that was all the righty would allow as he struck out Jason Bartlett for the final out.

The Giants will be off on Monday before returning to face the Marlins on Tuesday night. First pitch from San Francisco is set for 7:15 p.m.
