Giants To Call Up Eric Hacker For Friday Start Against Padres

Stay connected for news and updates

Thanks to a double-header in New York City on Monday the San Francisco Giants were either going to have to send Tim Lincecum to the mound on short rest in April, or look elsewhere for a starter for Friday's matchup with the San Diego Padres.

Fortunately they chose the later as CSN Bay Area's Andrew Baggarly reports, as the Giants plan to call up right-hander Eric Decker from AAA Fresno for his Giants debut.

The team is yet to make an official announcement, though his agent posted on his Twitter that Hacker would have his contract purchased by the Giants for the Friday start. Hacker, 29, was already set to pitch that day for Fresno so it doesn't affect his schedule, not to mention he is 4-0 with a 2.19 ERA in four starts. Not too shabby.

San Francisco will likely move Brian Wilson to the 60-day DL to make room for him on the 40-man roster.

Baggarly suggests that reliever Dan Otero is a possible candidate to be optioned back to Fresno to make room for Hacker, though it is likely he will be swapped for another reliever after this start. Righty Steve Edlefsen could fit that bill as he is already on the 40-man roster.
