Freddy Sanchez Injury: Giants Second Baseman Begins Single-A Rehab Assignment Monday

Stay connected for news and updates

As the San Francisco Giants continue to play musical chairs at the second base position between Ryan Theriot and Emmanuel Burriss, CSN Bay Area's Andrew Baggarly is reporting that Freddy Sanchez will be taking part in a rehab assignment with the single A San Jose Giants on Monday as the DH, hoping to see time in the infield later this week.

Sanchez has still not been able to get full strength back in his surgically repaired shoulder he suffered last summer, missing almost all of Spring Training as well.

The minor league assignment is a certainly a good sign, meaning the team feels he can be ready to face big league pitching within the next month or so. He will likely graduate to Triple-A Fresno before returning to the Giants though.

"I don't think I'll put Huff at second hopefully anytime soon," said Giants manager Bruce Bochy, probably echoing the wishes of thousands.
