The San Francisco Giants celebrated their 2012 home opener on Friday afternoon at AT&T Park. The game itself was all that Giants fans could have hoped for, Matt Cain spun a phenomenal 1-hit, complete-game shutout as the Giants defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates for their third win in their past four games. But before the game began, the ceremonial first pitch was thrown out by a very special guest.

One year ago, Bryan Stow was the victim of a brutal assault at Opening Day between the Dodgers and the Giants at Dodger Stadium. The traumatic brain injury that Stow suffered left him in a coma and resulted in paralysis. Stow has made significant progress, but has a very, very long road ahead of him.

As CSN Bay Area reported, the Giants collaborated with the Stow family for a very special moment prior to the Giants home opener on Friday. Throwing out the ceremonial first pitch was Stow's son, Tyler. Before the pitch, Bryan and his mother appeared on the video screen at the stadium live via satellite. A very touching moment for a Giants fan that has been in everyone's thoughts at some point over the past year.
