The San Francisco Giants hand out the Willie Mac Award every September to honor the season's most inspirational teammate, and this year came as no surprise when Ryan Vogelsong was named as the recipient.↵
Vogelsong signed a minor league contract in the winter, and made good on his opportunity when called to the majors. The 34 year old journeyman was 8-1 with a 2.23 ERA over his first four months, pitching well enough to be named to the 2011 All-Star team, and currently holds a 10-5 record with a 2.63 ERA. He joins current teammates Andres Torres and Matt Cain as winners of the award, along with Giants announcer Mike Krukow, twice the winner of the award.
