Giants vs. Brewers, Schedule Preview: Jonathan Sanchez Looks to Keep Giants Rolling at Miller Park

When you think about the San Francisco Giants and Milwaukee Brewers season’s thus far, this three game series at Miller Park is vital to both of them. The Brew Crew are trying to use the defensing champs as a measuring stick as to how well they do against top notch teams, while the Giants are looking to keep the vibe positive and lively after the injury bug bit them hard and fast. Game two is this afternoon, so who’s got more to prove?

Jonathan Sanchez (3-3 3.47 ERA) is out to prove that he can last deep into the game and keep his walks to a minimum, hopefully showcasing some of the ‘good’ Sanchez that Giants fans have grown to love instead of the ‘bad’ or ‘ugly’ Sanchez that can creep up from time to time. The Sanchize is only 1-1 with a 6.83 ERA in nine career starts against Milwaukee, something he can definitely improve on this afternoon.

Brewers veteran Randy Wolf (4-4 3.70 ERA) has seen the Giants many a time in his career as an ex-Dodger and Padre, and is trying to build off of the seven innings of work against the Rockies last week that kept them to only one run and an eventual win for Milwaukee. Wolf is out to prove that he can keep up with other cannons in his rotation like Shaun Marcum and Zack Duke; today’s outing may do just that for him today.

As for the Giants offense, they can’t sit around and hope Brandon Crawford keeps hitting salmi’s every game, so they have to get something going today as well. Freddy Sanchez is the hottest hitter on the team right now, recording at least one hit in 10 of the last 11 games he’s played. He’s also only two hits shy of career number 1000, something to keep an eye out for this afternoon.

Interesting stat: the Giants are 11-4 against left handing pitchers this season, third best in MLB. Food for thought.

First pitch is set for 1:10 PT with coverage on CSN Bay Area, MLB Network, and KNBR 680 AM.
