MLB Standings Update: Giants Remain in First Place, Diamondbacks Move Up to Second

The race in the NL West is an ever changing landscape, and after this last week of play it actually shifted quite a bit. But the San Francisco Giants still remain atop the division, with a little help from the Colorado Rockies.

The Giants were swept by the Marlins in their last series, but the Rockies have lost seven of their last 10 and 17 of 25 in the month of May, a large reason the Giants have remained in first place. The Giants are still one of the hottest teams in baseball as winners of 14 of their last 21 games, but the surging Arizona Diamondbacks are trying to make their presence felt. The D'backs have won 10 of their last 12 including the last three games against the Rox, largely in part to their pitching staff, which is a bit under the radar.  But now only 1.5 games back of the G-Men, they aren't going unrecognized now.

The caboose of the NL West is being driven by the Dodgers and Padres, both of whom are well under .500 at this point. It's never wise to count any team out in the NL West but these two better start turning the ship around before it becomes too late. Only the Giants and D'backs have records above .500, but Arizona is only two games above it.
